It is off to Canada very soon for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the seventh edition of the tournament. The twenty four qualifying nations will be gathering themselves across the Great White North for the month long tournament, which incidentally, will be using the Hawk-Eye goal-line technology for the first time.

The set up is the usual standard of six groups with four teams each in them and the top two in each group will be joined by the four best fourth-placed sides in the knockout stages. The action all begins on June 6th when hosts Canada take on China, followed by New Zealand v Netherlands. It is an extra important tournament for the UEFA representatives as the top three sides from the federation will automatically qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Heading up the outright winner market in 2015 Women’s World Cup betting are the USA and Germany  who are joint 3/1 favourites with online betting site Bet365. They are a considerable way ahead of the rest of the challengers, and the USA Women will be looking to go one step better than four years ago in Germany, when they lost the final in a shock upset against Japan.

But they are in great shape to launch another attack, with the mix and quality in their squad with the likes of Hope Solo, Christie Rampone, Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan. They have a lot of firepower in their ranks do the USA women. Germany, who also lost in a shock upset against Japan four years ago (going down 1-0 after extra time in the quarter finals) also will bring a pretty intense arsenal with them in the likes of Celia Sasic, Alexandra Popp and Melanie Behringer. The immense Birgit Prinz retired four years ago, so the tournament will be missing her considerable presence.

Germany should make light work of their group, as they take on the Ivory Coast, Norway and Thailand, while the USA have perhaps a little tricker opponents in the form of Sweden, Australia and Nigeria. The USA women are running at 2/5 favourites still to win Group D.

England Women won’t have been too impressed with the draw as they have to battle with France for top spot in Group F. The French perhaps make the best outside shot of the entire tournament, running at a price of 9/1, but they are superbly talented, if understated squad, and will be able to mix it with the best of them. Four years ago, France knocked England out in the quarterfinals on a penalty shoot out and then lost 3-1 against the USA in the semi finals. Colombia and Mexico are also in England’s group, and France are 8/11 to win Group F, with England at 6/4.

It is going to be tough to break up the power duo of USA and Germany in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup betting market. Behind them, you have Brazil (with the outstanding Marta who has 91 goals in 92 internationals at the time of writing in), France and Japan and then everyone else really just looks to be making up the numbers, including England who are 20/1 shots to win the cup. France do make a great each way punt and shop around because they can be backed as long as 12/1 at online betting site BetVictor.
