Portugal name World Cup 2014 squad
With little surprise, captain of his country Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in Portuguese provisional 30 man squad for the World Cup 2014. With the Real Madrid star suffering some injury problems towards the end of the season, and a hamstring issue keeping him out of Madrid’s defeat at Celta Vigo last weekend, there were very minor doubts. But the reports are that he is going to be fit for the Champions League final, where Real Madrid take on Atletico Madrid so should be at the 2014 World Cup.
Only one English based player has been named in the squad, and that is Manchester United’s winger Nani. Coach Paulo Bento has until June 2nd to cut his squad down to the 23 men for the World Cup, and one of the provisional squad members is Ricardo Quaresma, who stepped away from the game for six months last year, before joining FC Porto.
Portugal open their World Cup 2014 campaign in Group G against Germany on June 16th, before then facing the USA and Ghana. Portugal are 3/1 to win Group G and are 8/15 to qualify
