World Cup Qualification Previews & Predictions

This is an important game for Argentina in trying to book themselves a place at the 2018 World Cup. They start this next round of matches outside of the automatic qualification places in the CONMEBOL zone but things will be looking much brighter for them if they can collect three home points in this one against Chile who are one place and one point above them in the standings. This is not a home game which they can afford to lose but there will be a threat from Chile who have already beaten both Brazil and Uruguay in the qualification campaign so far.

It hasn’t been an overly convincing campaign from Argentina on the road to Russia 2018. The Albiceleste are in fifth place ahead of this next round of matches, which means one spot out of the automatic qualification places. Following this game against Chile they will head out on the road to take on Bolivia on March 28th so there are points on offer coming up. They are just the one point behind fourth placed Chile so this is a big home game for them. They just haven’t been able to find top gear at all yet and at home there have been hugely disappointing results in a W3 D1 L2 record which includes defeats against Ecuador and Paraguay.

In their last home match they beat Colombia 3-0 and that was the kind of response they needed after having lost against Brazil by the same scoreline in the previous qualifier. So they haven’t been able to land any consistency at any point. With their three home wins in the campaign coming with a clean sheet, and Argentina to win to nil bet is running at 13/10 with Bet365. Argentina have gone W4 D2 in their last six against Chile and each of their last three wins over Chile have been by a 2-1 scoreline. An Argentina 2-1 correct score at Bet365 is a good price of 7/1 because Chile do carry an attacking threat. Lionel Messi is 10/11 anytime goalscorer favourite, with Gonzalo Higuain at Even money and Sergio Aguero at 11/10.

Surprisingly, for all of their attacking talent, Argentina have only scored 14 goals in their 12 qualification games so far. Will that give Chile a chance? Chile are in fourth place going into the round of matches and they have beaten Uruguay and Brazil in their campaign. They have heavily outscored Argentina in the qualification run so far as well, but they did lose against the Albiceleste earlier in the campaign and they have bagged only three clean sheets from their dozen games in his campaign. They have also only gone W3 D1 L2 out on the road, shipping an average of two goals per game over those away fixtures.

There is a price of 3/4 at Bet365 on Both teams to score and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is an 11/4 anytime goalscorer option. There are doubts about his participation in the qualifier though as he went off injured in a Premier League game against West Brom on the weekend, but he was seen training with Chile this week. Arturo Vidal is their top scorer in World Cup 2018 qualification with six goals, Sanchez just the one behind. With they have the defensive strengths to hold off the Albiceleste in Buenos Aires?

Argentina vs Chile Betting Tips

A home win looks to be the most likely outcome in this one. Argentina delivered a good performance at home against Colombia in their last home fixture in World Cup qualifying and with Chile having struggled for clean sheets throughout and with the potential loss of Alexis Sanchez, Argentina should collect maximum points in this big home game for them.
