Belgium announce World Cup 2014 squad
After making a decision to play for Belgium back in April, Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj will be winging his way to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The creative young midfielder had plenty of options as he was eligible to play for anyone from Belgium, England, Kosovo, Albania, Turkey and Serbia. Januzaj has been named in Marc Wilmots 24 man squad for Brazil 2014.
Wilmots has named 24 players in the squad, and that is because he has selected four goalkeepers and one of them will be cut. Januzaj is one of 12 players in the Belgian World Cup squad who play in the Premier League. Along with keeper Thibaut Courtois, who is out on loan at Atletico Madrid, Chelsea have Eden Hazard and Roll in the squad, while Eden’s younger brother Thorgan is on the six man standby list.
Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke will miss the World Cup after rupturing his Achilles tendon in April. Other familiar Premier League names heading to Brazil 2014 is Man Utds Marouane Fellaini, Liverpool stopper Simon Mignolet and Man City defender and captain Vincent Kompany. Spurs will be represented by Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli, along with Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen and Everton’s Kevin Mirallas.
Belgium play in Group H at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where they are odds on a 7/10 to win the group ahead of Russia (5/2). Belgium’s first game is against Algeria on June 17th, they then move on to face the Russians in what should be a scrap for top spot, before rounding off against South Korea.
