Brazil qualifiy for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa

Brazil have safely bypassed the South American group, with the cherry on the cake being an emphatic 3-1 victory away in Argentina, against a bitter foe. Brazil went into Saturday’s game with the Argentine’s knowing that a win would be enough to wrap up qualification and enable Brazilian manager, Dunga, to have three extra games to have a fiddle and experiment a little with tactics & players ahead of the World Cup finals next summer.

Brazil now lead the South American group with 30 points but, what with the Brazilians already through to South Africa, will they be a soft touch in their remaining three qualifiers? Brazil will make a rather pointless trip to Bolivia, with Bolivia having no chance whatsoever of making the finals, but Brazil’s games with Chile & Venezuela, in Brazil, could have a huge impact on how the group pans out and in the process, who actually follows them in South Africa.

Brazil will head back home now where they will welcome Chile to Salvador de Bahia on Wednesday for their first of three remaining qualifiers. With some players facing some hefty trips back to Europe after this game with Chile, we would doubt Dunga will field the strongest possible side, which could and should play into the hands of the Chileans, of whom, only need one more victory to cement their place in South Africa.

It’s a job well done for Brazil, who qualify for South Africa with a record of 8 wins – 6 draws – 1 defeat. They’ve also maintained a lean defence in qualifying, conceding just seven goals in 15 games, that’s under 0.5 a-game.

Brazil have cruised to qualification and they will now make the preparations needed to have a successful World Cup campaign next summer. Their upcoming qualifiers will hand Dunga the perfect opportunity to test a few methods of his liking and with this in mind, the Brazilians look a decent bet to go all the way in South Africa at odds of 5/1 with PaddyPower & Coral.
