Colombia v Greece Betting Preview – World Cup 2014
This is the starting action in Group C at the World Cup and it is an odd looking group. All of the early excitement about Colombia being such a big dark horse has faded over the last couple of months, and they are missing their big star Radamel Falcao. The other nations in the Group are the Ivory Coast and Japan, so it looks pretty wide open. The South Americans though, just because they are missing their star player, may still have enough to make a good impression at the tournament.
Naturally they will be worse off without Radamel Falcao, but there is decent backup for Colombia in the form of Porto’s Jackson Martinez, Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca and the veteran presence of Teofilo Gutierrez. While they scored consistently during World Cup qualification, they were actually far stronger in defence, which may come as a surprise really, because they are certainly no spring chickens back there. They have a huge veteran presence in their back line, which could ultimately accentuate them or hurt them.
This opening game in Group C doesn’t have the look of being that thrilling, but Colombia are the best side in the group and they have been trading as favourites to top the pile. They should ultimately win out, and they are odds on against the Greeks. But it is probably going to be one of those games where it is going to be one side knocking on the door of the other’s defence for most of the ninety minutes. You don’t see Greece mounting a lot of attacking and it could be worth tipping towards Colombia to win to nil at a price of 7/4.
The other way to cover the game would naturally be going under 2.5 goals. It is a World Cup opening group match, which no-one likes losing, so there is probably going to be caution. Colombia are unbeaten in their last six matches, but have drawn three of their last four, just casting a little doubt over them. Greece have lost just one of their last six, drawing two of their last three. You won’t be able to fault the work rate nor the passion of the Greeks, but do they have the quality?
Greece have failed to score in three of their last four matches, finally snapping their run with a 2-1 win over Bolivia in their final warm up match. You expect Greece to keep things tight, and while they are running as outsiders in Group C, they do have the ability to grind out points where perhaps they shouldn’t and that could keep them in the mix. They have gone up against Colombia just once before and that ended in a 2-0 defeat in a friendly back in 1994.
Colombia v Greece Odds
Colombia v Greece Betting Tips
Would go under 2.5 goals for a comfortable looking wager on this one. Greece rarely trouble anyone and Colombia are strong enough at the back to keep a clean sheet and take a narrow win.
With three draws in their last four matches for Colombia, even though they are running favourites here, there will be a temptation to lean toward a draw in this one at 12/5
In the anytime goalscorer market, if someone is going to break the deadlock, then look towards Porto’s Jackson Martinez, who looks a decent shot at 6/5 for the Colombians
