Croatia are the favourites to get through this World Cup qualification tie and they start at home on Thursday night for the first leg of the competition. This is all where it counts now, two games to get to the World Cup next summer. Croatia can boast a pretty mean defence on home soil and with the Greeks just falling out of form a bit, will they be able to make the most of the home advantage?

Croatia vs Greece Betting Tips

This is probably going to be a tight tie all of the way. Croatia only managed to secure a play off place thanks to a 2-0 away win in their final Group Stage qualification match in the Ukraine. That showed that they can handle the pressure though in a game they needed to win. Croatia were unbeaten on home soil during their qualification campaign putting up a W3 D2 record. But overall, home and away they did struggle for goals in the group. They returned 15 in 10 games in total, but eight of those were in their two games against Kosovo, the whipping boys of the group. All five of Croatia’s home games saw less than three goals and under 2.5 goals at bet365 fetches a good price of 8/13. Croatia have conceded just once in their last four home games. Mario Mandzukic is the 11/10 anytime goalscorer favourite.

These two nations were together in Euro 2012 qualification and from those two matches, it was Greece who came out on top with four points, thanks to a home win. Croatia are unbeaten at home against Greece, but each of those three previous home games against the Greeks were drawn. Greece actually edges the head to head 2-1 over Croatia with three draws played out. But even though Croatia are winless in four now against the Greeks, of the two at the moment they do look the stronger of the nations. Both teams not to score at 8/15 with bet365 will favour the defensive strengths that Croatia clearly have on home soil. Croatia to win to nil wager at bet365 looks decent value at a price of 4/5. Seven of Greece’s last ten games have produced fewer than three goals.

Greece had little chance really of beating Belgium to top spot in Group H of World Cup qualification and while they were heavily outscored by the Red Devils, the Greeks matched Belgium’s defensive record of conceding just the six goals. Another hint that this may be a low scoring game. Greece are unbeaten in their last seven road games, including tough qualification matches out in Belgium and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Greeks have been trailing at half time just once in their last 19 games and they are an organised side and so a half time draw at bet365 looks a decent way to go at 6/5. Greece will probably want to contain as much as possible in this one and Croatia haven’t lost at home in over four years now. Greece did in three of their five away games in the qualifiers, notably at Cyprus and Gibraltar and that just hints that even though they are pretty organised, they may struggle to hold out.

There may not be many goals around in this fixture, but Croatia can make amends for missing out on automatic qualification by giving themselves a nice cushion in this fixture. They are strong enough probably to win to nil as well.
