Czech Republic v Northern Ireland – World Cup Qualification Group Six

12th October 2009 | World Cup Betting category: Football World Cup Bets

CZECH REPUBLIC v NORTHERN IRELAND

Technically Northern Ireland could still clinch second place, but that would need the unlikely to be multiplied by the improbable for that to happen. Only if the scenario in Group C panned out like this, would the Irish be celebrating. Ireland win by about a seven goal margin or more, and San Marino beat second placed Slovenia. That is clearly not going to happen, and it is the Czech Republic who are relying on other results, as well as their own, in order to steal second place.

The Czech’s really do need the Slovenians to mess up against San Marino, so that they could leap frog them into second place with a resounding victory over Northern Ireland. Unfortunately it all went wrong for Northern Ireland in the last round of matches, when they lost to Slovakia and could only manage a draw against Poland. That really dented the chance they had worked so hard towards setting up for themselves throughout qualifying. The Czech Republic, much like Portugal have been somewhat of a disappointment, and now their qualification hopes are out of their own hands. All they can do is win and hope.
