England now know their fixture list for their 2014 World Cup qualifiers, after FA delegates worked out a convenient schedule which sees the national side avoid playing during the summer off season. The FA were keen on this, because after a busy domestic season, England’s top players generally need a good break, and by avoiding fixtures in June and July, England will be helped by the extra rest, especially with the Euro 2012 finals next year as well. So England won’t start their 2014 World Cup Qualification campaign until September of 2012. They will be firm favourites to win their qualification group, after having been handed a good draw in terms of opposition. They have to face minnows San Marino and Moldova in the group, along with the Ukraine, Poland and a revisit with Montenegro, who they edged past in Euro 2012 qualification. Of course, current coach Fabio Capello won’t be in charge there, so the fixture list for England’s 2014 World Cup qualification should allow the next coach a gentle introduction to the campaign, with an opener against Moldova and then returning to Wembley to face the Ukraine. England have risen up to the fifth in the FIFA World Rankings after beating both Spain and Sweden in recent international friendly matches.

England are 20/1 at Stan James to win the 2014 World Cup.
