France v Nigeria Odds & Betting Tips – World Cup 2014 Betting
France v Nigeria Betting Preview – World Cup 2014
Les Bleus have looked a very strong side at the World Cup so far and they are running as odds on favourites to make it through to the quarter finals. With wins over Honduras and Switzerland and then a draw against Ecuador the French were pretty comfortable. This will be just their second match against Nigeria, their first clash in 2009 ending in a 1-0 defeat for France. Just reason to be cautious here, because France have lost two of their last three World Cup matches against African nations, against Senegal in 2002 and four years ago against South Africa.
France have both Karim Benzema and Olivier Giroud looking sharp up front, with Benzema at 10/11 and Giroud at 5/4 in the anytime goalscorer market. Benzema has nine goals in his last nine appearances for France now. The French produced the most shots at goal of all sides in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup, so it shows what a threat they are. They have also won all three of their previous second round ties at the World Cup, so are worth backing here in the match outright. On the last five occasions that France have gotten out of the group stage, they have gone on to reach the semi finals at the World Cup.
The French look a confident, strong side at the moment and will probably have too much for Nigeria. Nigeria drew against Iran, beat Bosnia and then lost against Argentina in their group stage, but with Iran failing to beat Bosnia, the Super Eagles scraped through. There isn’t a lot of power up front for them, but they are on a trend of having scored a goal in all but one of their previous 10 World Cup matches against European sides. They have however, won just one of their last 11 World Cup matches in total.
The Super Eagles have also lost their last two second round matches in the tournament, both against European sides. If they can get this one to a penalty shoot out, then it will probably be their best chance of progressing. They have only won one of their last six matches played now, so their current form certainly isn’t strong enough to stand up to that of France.
