Joachim Low has released a 27-man provisional squad ahead of the finals in South Africa. There aren’t too many surprise inclusions thus far; Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose, Michael Ballack and Bastien Schweinsteiger are instantly recognisable. Bayern Munich’s Hans-Jorg Butt has replaced Rene Adler of Bayer Leverkusen in goal after Adler was ruled out of South Africa through injury, while Bayern’s central defender, Holger Badstuber, remains the only real surprise call up from Low

Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller are some of the youngsters in the German camp and will make their first appearance in a World Cup should they be selected by Low in the 23-man squad in a few weeks time.

The squad will, of course, be reduced to just 23 before the finals. Joachim Low will need to cut four players from the German fold, while he could also recall a few more before Germany travel to South Africa.

Goalkeepers: Hans-Jorg Butt, Manuel Neuer, Tim Wiese

Defenders: Per Mertesacker, Heiko Westermann, Philipp Lahm, Jerome Boateng, Andrea Beck, Arne Friedrich, Serdar Tasci, Marcell Jansen, Holger Badstuber, Dennis Aogo.

Midfielders: Michael Ballack, Sami Khedira, Piotr Trochowski, Marko Marin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Christian Trasch, Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos.

Forwards: Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose, Stefan Kiessling, Cacau, Thomas Muller, Mario Gomez.
