Holland v Chile Odds & Betting Tips – World Cup 2014 Betting
Holland v Chile Betting Preview – World Cup 2014
This is the unexpected clash for top spot in Group B, with Spain having fallen by the wayside. These two aren’t going to want to rest on their laurels though, because finishing second is likely to put them into a round of sixteen clash against Brazil. So everything still to play for in this one, and while a draw will do for Holland because of goal difference, Chile have to come out and win to wrestle top spot from the Dutch.
Not really any history to look at between these two because this will be just the second ever meeting between the two nations. Holland did win that previous encounter by having to draw lots following a 2-2 draw back at the 1928 Olympics. Holland are running as favourites, but in their two previous matches against South American opponents in World Cups held in South America, they haven’t managed to put a win on the board. Those were against Peru and Argentina back at the 1978 World Cup. In total though, the Netherlands have only lost two of their 11 World Cup matches against South American opposition.
Even when they get knocked back, they pull out the goods, as the Dutch have now won three of their last four World Cup games in which they have been behind in. They are currently on a four match winning streak at the moment, including their wins over Spain and Australia at World Cup 2014. Vast difference in the way they played though in their two games so far, as Australia really rattled the Dutch, Holland pulling through thanks to the presence of Robin van Persie who is suspended for this game. That leaves Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as 7/4 favourite for the Dutch in the anytime goalscorer market, with Arjen Robben at 7/5.
Chile have Alexi Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas at 2/1 in the anytime goalscorer market and the South Americans produced a tactically great game to take out Spain. They pressed high up the pitch and they were quick on the break. Given how Australia troubled Holland with pace, the betting margins on this one in the match outrights are relatively narrow. Chile have won four of their last six World Cup now and are running in good spirit, winning their last four on the bounce as well. They have only won two of their last 11 World Cup matches against European opposition though, and the Netherlands haven’t lost a World Cup group game since 1994. If anything, this should be a good open match.
