The Republic of Ireland go into what is their easiest home game of their qualification campaign and that comes at the right time. They need to roll out a victory in this one to try and just keep pace or even overhaul second-placed Wales who are one point ahead of them. Ireland will go to Cardiff following this one for a huge showdown and they will be able to carry forth some great confidence for that if they can produce a good victory in this one. There is no room for error now at this stage of the game.

Ireland vs Moldova Odds

Ireland 1/10, draw 10/1, Moldova 33/1

Ireland vs Moldova Betting Tips

Ireland have reason to look forward this game because it should be their easiest home fixture of the entire campaign and it could give them good confidence before going to meet Wales in their final group match. There are selection issues for the Irish though with doubts over James McCarthy, Harry Arter and Shane Long, but Long looks as if he could make it. Main striker Jon Walters is out of their next two games because of injury, while Robbie Brady and James McClean are both suspended. So the Irish are going to have to rely on some back up power. Long is the 4/6 anytime goalscorer favourite for the match with Daryl Murphy at 5/6.

There was a 3-1 win for Ireland earlier in the group campaign out in Chisinau against Moldova and Shane Long opened the scoring in that match. After a positive start to the qualification campaign, Ireland’s form has fallen away and their chances were damaged badly in a 1-0 home loss against Serbia last time out. That was a big opportunity for the Irish to really get themselves in the top two, but they missed it. Ireland have only scored three goals in their last five qualifiers so they are not likely going to rout Moldova, but right now this is just about the points. In the bet365 correct score market, the Ireland 2-0 option is at 7/2 with a 1-0 win for the home side at 11/2. Ireland have to win this and beat Wales to stand a chance of making the play-offs.

They won’t face too much opposition in Moldova who are sitting bottom of Group D with only the two points on the board, and those were collected in two draws against Georgia who are second from bottom. There has only been the four goals scored by Moldova in their eight qualifiers so far and have shipped a total of 20 so there is nothing to get Ireland troubled at all. Ireland to win to nil at bet365 returns a price of 4/9. Six of Ireland’s last seven matches in the World Cup qualifiers have all gone under 2.5 goals. They just have to throw the kitchen sink at the next two matches and hope to reach the play offs. They should collect a relatively easy victory in this one.
