Ladbrokes offer 24/1 for Italy to not concede during World Cup 2014 Group Stage

The toughest Group at World Cup 2014 is likely to be Group D, and it is the one which has been labelled the group of death for the tournament. In there, joining rank outsiders Costa Rica, are Italy, Uruguay and of course, England. Ever since the draw for the 2014 World Cup 2014 was made it has been one of the hardest groups to call.

Online betting site Ladbrokes have continued their run of World Cup specials, by putting a  price of 24/1 on Italy to win all three of their Group D matches to nil.

Look back over the World Cup history of Italy and you will see that they have always largely been a defense-first type of side. They were always happy to knock the ball sideways and win matches with one beautifully crafted goal. However, under Cesare Prandelli, they have shaken off that label, as they like to get on the front foot and attack teams by playing an open game, still based on possession though.

After easy qualification to the FIFA World Cup 2014 (where they shipped nine goals in their ten matches), is there something special to come  from the Azzurri? They did almost record three clean sheets in the group stage of the 2006 World Cup, when they conceded just the one goal, an own goal in fact by defender Cristian Zaccardo.

There are actually some great stats to back up a shot at this 24/1 offer from Ladbrokes. England haven’t scored in their last three competitive matches against Italy. The last time England did manage to score against them was at Italia ‘90 in the third place play off match.

Italy have played Uruguay twice before in the FIFA World Cup and kept clean sheets in both of those matches against the South Americans. With outsiders Costa Rica not looking a threat to anyone’s goal in the group, could Italy pull this off?

Italy kick off their campaign against England in Manus on June 14th, before going on to face Costa Rica (who they have never played before in the World Cup), before having a big showdown with Luis Suarez’s Uruguay in Natal.

Italy are 7/4 to win Group D, 4/9 to qualify and are 25/1 shots to win the World Cup for the fifth time and match Brazil’s record.
