England opened their World Cup 2014 warm up series with a 3-0 home win at Wembley over Peru, who were booked to give the Three Lions some experience against South American opposition. With the big kick off in Brazil just a fortnight away, England players will be keen to impress and press for a start in their opening group game in Manaus against Italy on June 14th.

Liverpool’s striker Daniel Sturridge created the only interesting moment in a flat first half, when his exquisite finish from distance opened the scoring for England. Looking far more effective than Wayne Rooney, Sturridge is a 1/8 banker to be in the starting eleven against Italy. He is the England forward carrying all of the form right right now.

Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck somehow managed to last 90 minutes in the game, not putting in a very impressive shift at all. Looking a bit loose and was guilty of losing possession out on the left of midfield, he is a favourite of Hodgson has has been moved in from 13/8 to 11/8 to get the start against Italy. Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling, who offered a whole new spark with his direction and running, sees the youngster up at 5/6 to get a start.

Southampton’s Adam Lallana, after starting against Peru and putting in a seventy minute shift, impressed against, looking at home on the international stage, has been trimmed from 5/6 to 4/5 to start against Italy. Bullish runs and pulling most of the creative strings in the second half of the game, should see him kick off England’s opening game. Also in the midfield, Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson’s odds of starting have been moved in from 5/6 to 8/11 with Ladbrokes after putting in a full 90 minutes as well.
