Luiz Felipe Scolari names Brazil squad for World Cup 2014

It is the news that a lot of punters will have been anxiously looking forward too. Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has produced his 223 man squad which will be participating at the 2014 World Cup. Brazil, who are running as 3/1 favourites in the World Cup 2014 outright winner market will be taking six British based players with them.

Chelsea’s Ramires, Willian, Oscar and David Luiz all make the squad along with Tottenham’s Paulinho and Man City’s Fernandinho. Brazil kick off the 2014 World Cup with a fixture against Croatia in Group A, before moving ahead to face Cameron and Mexico in what looks to be a pretty easy group for them.

There have been no big surprises in the squad for the favourites, indeed, choosing sixteen of the players who won last year’s warm up tournament, the COnfederations Cup, with victory over Spain in the final.

While Scolari said that he it found it easy to pick the squad, it was a massive event in Brazil, with television stations moving their programming around to produce a live broadcast of the event, and more than 700- journalists from across the world were in attendance in Rio for the squad unveiling.

“We know that not everybody will agree with all the names, it’s normal,” Scolari said. “But now that we have the 23 players, we would like to ask that our fans support all of them so together we can focus on our goal of winning the World Cup.”

Scolari also went on to say that nine of his starting eleven have been confirmed with Luis, Oscar, Ramires, William, Paulinho, Cesar, Silva, Fred and Neymar to be in action.
