Nigeria v Bosnia Betting Preview – World Cup 2014

Huge stakes on offer in this one, as it could settle who will be following through favourites Argentina from Group F. Bosnia kick off without a point, but have an easier finish to the group in having to play Iran after Nigeria. Nigeria need points out of this one as they have to face Argentina in their final group match.

Bosnia opened their account with a very creditable performance against Argentina, eventually being undone by a brilliant goal from Lionel Messi. They showed enough though to suggest that they can beat Nigeria and that is why they are heading into this one as favourites. This is the first time that the two nations have met. Given that the game against Argentina was Bosnia’s first ever World Cup match, they did pretty good and looked a neat, accomplished and dangerous side. They generally kept Argentina at arms length, and they have the firepower to see off the Super Eagles.

Edin Dzeko is even money favorite in the anytime goalscorer market, and no player was involved in more goals than the Man City man during qualifying (10 goals, 4 assists). They also have Vedad Ibisevic and Zvjezdan Misimovic at 2/1 in the market. So good options there and they did actually attempt more shots and had more on target than Argentina did in their opening match. You would expect them to avoid their first back to back defeats under coach Safet Susic heading into this one.

In taking what will have been a massively disappointing draw against Iran in their opening match, the Super Eagles are now on a nine match winless streak in World Cup matches, and that goes all the way back to 1998. Of those nine, six have been lost by Nigeria and they have failed to score in three of their last five games. Their lack of power up front is reflected in the the fact that out of the 32 teams to qualify for Brazil 2014, they did by scoring the fewest amount of goals. They just don’t look to quite be at the races, and against solid European opposition, they could falter.
