Saturday, September 5th
Kick Off 7.30pm

Nigel Worthington’s Northern Ireland need a couple more great performances to see themselves into World Cup 2010 contention. Currently sitting in second place in Group 3 behind Slovakia, Northern Ireland still have high hopes of winning the group. On Saturday they face a trip to Poland, whom they beat 3-2 on home ground, and then on Wednesday could be the group decider at home to Slovakia. Slovakia play the Czech Republic on Saturday.

If Northern Ireland can turn over Slovakia and reverse the loss which they suffered away to them, then that will put the Group at their mercy. It will all be depending on Saturday’s results of course. If there are still hopes of winning Group 3, then nothing less than a win will suffice for Northern Ireland. They also need to be wary of Slovenia, Poland and the Czech Republic, and will be trying to keep them off their backs for the runners up spot. This compounds the pressure if the results don’t quite to plan in this round of matches. For an outside bet to qualify, keep your eyes on the Czech Republic.

There will be a lot of hope that Nigel Worthington can lead his team straight to the top of the group, and therefore not have to worry about going through a nervous play-off match. With things a little tight in the group, then passions will be high, especially if they can return to Belfast on Wednesday night having claimed a positive results against Poland on Saturday. Slovakia are favourites for the group and are 5/4 at SkyBet, with Northern Ireland 10/1 at Victor Chandler.
