Ireland v Italy Betting Tips:
England will be hoping that Ireland get the job done here, and dent Italy’s confidence. Ireland could only finish fourth in their World Cup qualifying group, running out of steam towards the end of the campaign, finishing behind Germany, Sweden and Austria. That prompted the new managerial partnership of Roy Keane and Martin O’Neill. While that started positively, the Boys In Green have struggled with back to back defeats in their two matches played in 2014. 2-1 losses against Serbia and Turkey has put a dampener on their spirits. Indeed, Ireland have now lost five of their last six matches played, the only cheer in that run a 3-1 win over Kazakhstan in World Cup qualifying.

To make things a little worse here, Ireland’s head to head record against the Italians isn’t great either, behind 2-8. The last time that they faced either other was at Euro 2012, with Italy winning 2-0 in the group stage. The previous two competitive matches to that saw them draw both meetings in World Cup 2010 qualifying. They met in a friendly in 2011 in Liege in 2011, Ireland taking a 2-0 win on that occasion. In the anytime goalscorer market, Italy are pretty much dominating proceedings, with Mario Balotelli favourite at 5/6, with Giuseppe Rossi at Evens, with a clutch of players from Ciro Immobile to Lorenzo Insigne at 15/8 to find the back of the bet.

While Cesare Prandelli’s troops are expected to pose England some problems in their World Cup 2014 opener on June 14th, the Italians have been struggling for wins. After qualifying for Brazil 2014 with ease, and not ever finding top gear, they have have won only two of their eight matches since the start of 2013. Their last five has seen them take four draws on the bounce (including a 1-1 tie against Germany), rounded off with a 1-0 friendly defeat against Spain at the start of March. So they are perhaps just lacking that killer instinct at the moment, which England fans should be pleased about. Still, you would feel, that even with Prandelli juggling the eleven on the field to get a look at his squad, they should have enough to beat Ireland. Hopefully this is as entertaining as it could be an over 12.5 goals is trading at 11/10.

Ireland have hit the skids just a little bit, but they are always up for a good game. Italy will be keen to get some winning momentum back though, and this is a good test for them ahead of facing England at the World Cup. Would just back the Italians to edge their way through it with a one goal winning margin at 5/2.
