Saturday, September 5th
Kick Off: 3pm

Scotland continue their World Cup 2010 qualifying campaign on Saturday, September 5th in a home fixture against Macedonia. This could be the crunch tie in Group Nine, as the two sides are tied on points and games played. The Netherlands have already qualified for the World Cup, the only team from Europe to do so, having won the group at a canter. The Scots however will need a lot of other things to go their way, and will need to pull positive results out of their remaining fixtures if they hope to sneak into one of the best runner’s up positions. In this respect they have some catching up to do and it looks like mission impossible, but Saturday will give them the ideal platform to launch that from.

The Scots have only scored four goals in their six qualifying games so far, and that clearly is a major problem, for even if they can overcome Macedonia, they have to face the Dutch on Wednesday 9th at Hampden Park. Macedonia have a very similar record to the Scottish one, the only difference is that they have conceded fewer goals. They too will be playing with some heart in order to clinch that second place in Group Nine.

If ever the Scottish pride was needed to shine through, then these will be the two matches in which to do so. South Africa 2010 may be on the distant horizon, but come kick off on Saturday, the Scots will be playing their way a little closer with every kick of the ball. Scotland kicked off their qualifying campaign in Macedonia, and lost 1-0, so there will be incentive to overturn that result. You are obviously not going to find odds on a group winner here, but you can back George Burley’s men to clinch that victory on Saturday. Kick off is at three.
