South Korea v Belgium Betting Preview – World Cup 2014

Well, Belgium can sit back and coast in this one, as they have already qualified for the knockout stage. They only need a point to guarantee themselves top spot, delivering on their favouritism there. As for South Korea, they need to come out and pull out a victory if they are to progress, but that will still be dependent on the result of Algeria v Russia.

Three times these two nations have met before and it is the third in the World Cup, and the South Koreans have never beaten Belgium (D1 L2) so that are at a disadvantage there right out of the gates. The Asians are out of form in the world Cup, having won just one of their last seven played in group stages of the tournament. Defensively they look to be all over the place having conceded 11 goals in their last four World Cup group stage matches too, including the 4-2 hammering they took against Algeria in their second group stage match.

Belgium have landed two wins from two, but the Red Devils haven’t looked all that convincing, but maybe they are growing into the tournament. Both victories have been by a single goal margin, and they have had to work hard in both, taking a  2-1 win over Algeria and a 1-0 victory over Russia. Romelu Lukaku has cut quite a forlorn figure, not working hard and hasn’t been a presence at all for them. Still, he is even money favourite in the anytime goalscorer market for this one, with Eden Hazard at 2/1.

Belgium’s last five World Cup goals have come in the final twenty minutes of matches, and 24 of South Korea’s 31 World Cup goals have been scored after half time. So expect second half goals to come. All three of Belgium’s goals so far have been scored by substitutes, which just goes to show their depth and quality on the bench. Their 1-0 victory over Russia gave Belgium their first clean sheet in eight World Cup fixtures, and they are now unbeaten in eight World Cup group stage matches. There is likely to be enough in this game to go over 2.5 goals.
