World Cup Qualification Previews & Predictions

One of the top games of the World Cup qualifiers this time around. The two of these are level at the top of Group G with an exact W5 D1 record from their respective six games. There was a 1-1 draw between them earlier in the campaign and Spain are on top because of a superior goal difference. So this really is Italy’s time to strike an advantage by taking an away win. But that’s easier said than done against Spain of course and Italy probably wouldn’t be unhappy with a draw because at least that keeps them in with a chance of winning the group.

Spain vs Italy Odds

Spain 17/20, Draw 12/5, Italy 10/3

Spain vs Italy Betting Tips

There is a lot riding on this game because it should settle who tops out the group. Both Spain and Italy have W5 D1 records in the group, with a 1-1 draw having been played out between the two of them earlier in the campaign. So it has been even-stevens all the way between the two of them and it is Spain who have a bit of an advantage because of home soil in this decider. A win here puts them further in control of the group but a draw would not be a disaster for them. It has been all too easy for the Spaniards at home in the group with them having taken wins over Israel 4-1, Macedonia 4-0 and Liechtenstein 8-0. Diego Costa is actually their top scorer in the group with five goals, but he’s out of the picture, so Alvaro Morata is a 5/4 anytime goalscorer option with Iago Aspas at 7/4.

In their last three meetings with Italy, Spain have only a D2 L1 record, but they have won their last two fixtures in Spain against them, both coming with a 1-0 scoreline. A Spain 1-0 correct score option at Coral is trading at 9/2, the shortest priced option in the market. A repeat 1-1 draw is a 5/1 option. Also trending a bit is the fact that both teams have scored in just two of the last six meetings between the two of them and both teams not to score at bet365 is a price of 4/6. Given that what is up for grabs here, an automatic place at Russia 2018, this is likely to be a cautious affair and this is likely going to be tight and under 2.5 goals is a price of 8/15 and six of the last seven meetings between Spain and Italy have gone under the goal line.

So in order to take full control of the group, Italy have to find an away win in this one. They have pretty much matched Spain all the way and have only scored three goals fewer than the Spaniards have done against the rest of the weak opposition in the group. But they are four goals down in the goal difference to Spain so a draw here isn’t likely going to be enough for them because they would have to make that up somehow in their final three games of the campaign. So far out on the road, Italy have taken a 3-1 win in Israel, a 3-2 win in Macedonia and a 4-0 win in Liechtenstein, so they have scored plenty, but a slight concern is those away goals which they have conceded. Ciro Immobile is the top scorer for the Italians in the qualification campaign so far and he is a price of 10/3 in the Coral anytime goalscorer market for this one with Andrea Belotti at 11/4. Can they produce a win to heap some pressure on Spain?
