A Betting Route to the Final with World Cup Fixtures
The 2010 World Cup Finals is on countdown, and planning betting strategies at the best online bookmakers for Betting on the World Cup can be influenced in a major way by looking at a chart to start planning how your tip may fare in the tricky road to the Final. The historic tournament, being held on the African continent for the first time, promises to be a closely contested tournament. There are plenty of contenders in the mix. As usual, there is a strong European contingent, with Spain leading the way as favourites, and of course the World Cup’s most successful nation, Brazil will be a major threat. One of the fun tasks to undertake when looking at Betting on the 2010 World Cup is predicting the path to the final of your team. Here we will take a look at the routes to the final which the four favourites, Spain, Brazil, England and Argentina will take, plus assess what the chances are of defending Champions Italy retaining their title.
Who has the toughest path out of the favourites in the 2010 FIFA World Cup? Which nation could slip through the expected strongest cracks thanks to an easier World Cup route in South Africa? Is there such a thing as an easy route in winning the World Cup? There does not appear to be, if all of the seeds win through as expected. There are some tough clashes looking at the progress of the favourite and strongest teams, but there is unusually something unexpected cropping up. As strong as the favourites look, there are a decent crop of teams which are more than capable of causing upsets. France winning Group A is no certainty, and defending World Cup Champions Italy may have a tougher time than expected in their group. But as fascinating as the race for top spot is, a lot of the crunch games will involve the race for second spot in the group. This is where the dark horses can sneak through to the knockout stages, and from that position anything can happen.
Spain
Spain was the last seeded team to be drawn out of the hat at the World Cup draw, and they landed themselves a relatively easy group along with Switzerland, Honduras and Chile. The Spaniards of course will be expected to win Group H at a cantor, as they are they are the outright favourites to win the entire tournament. If they win, as expected, then they will play the runners-up of Group H (aka the Group of Death) which contains Brazil, Korea DPR, Ivory Coast and Portugal. Brazil are expected to win Group H, but there will be a tight race for the second spot between Didier Drogba’s Ivory Coast and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal. Whoever gets through in second place will set up a mightily interesting match against Spain. The Ivory Coast’s poor showing at the African Cup of Nations could give the edge to Portugal, so a Spain v Portugal match is on the line for the first knockout stage. Spain’s route in the Quarter Finals will set them up with a potential clash against defending Champions Italy. If they overcome that tough task, then in the semi final they will probably meet the winner of Germany v Argentina. So the path to the final for the European Champions is not an easy one as you can see. The Spaniards look immense and certainly do have the potential to take down all other opposition, and they may have to win the World Cup the hard way.
Potential Opponents: L16 Portugal, QF Italy, SF Argentina
Brazil
The South American giants are in Group G along with Korea DPR, Ivory Coast and Portugal. Brazil are expected to win the group, especially when looking at betting on Brazil at the World Cup. If that happens, they will player the runner’s up from Group H, which houses Spain, Switzerland, Honduras and Chile. The second spot there will likely come down to a tight race between Switzerland and Chile, but Chile would be the favourites just to edge it, so that would give a good South American taste to the first knockout stage. If Brazil get through that, then there is the potential Quarter Final clash against the Netherlands. Who then may stand in their way in the semi finals? In the half of the draw along Brazil at this stage, will probably be England. The potential for England v France is on the cards in the Quarter finals, and then they will probably run into Brazil in the semi’s. Again, not the easiest of tasks for Brazil, but they certainly have a really interesting path to take to reach the Final of the World Cup in Johannesburg on July 11th.
Potential Opponents: L16 Chile, QF Holland, SF England
Argentina
A qualifying campaign of mixed results saw them scrape into the World Cup Finals, but they have a team which is bursting with talent, including Barcelona’s Lionel Messi of course. How much betting they will draw right now is a bit of a mystery to some extents, because they are a short price at the bookmakers, but in some regards they are dark horse. They have the talent, but are they together as a team under the management of Maradona? They are in a group which they are expected to win, with Nigeria, Greece and Korea Republic. That will send them into a last 16 fixture against the runner’s up of Group A, which is a little hard to predict as it contains France, Mexico, Uruguay and hosts South Africa. Looking at betting odds and the all important World Cup Fixtures then we can predict France will win the group, probably followed by Mexico. Who ever it is, really should not be much bother for Argentina, which will send them into a Quarter Final against Germany probably. If they get through that, then awaiting them in the semi finals could be the victors of the mouth watering European clash between Spain and Italy, with the former expecting to go to the finals.
Potential Opponents: L16 Mexico, QF Italy, SF Spain
England
What awaits Fabio Capello’s England in the 2010 FIFA World Cup? Let’s take a look. England’s potential route to the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final all starts with their Group C matches. Fabio Capello’s men are the seeded team in a group along with Slovenia, Algeria and the USA. England kick off their first match against the USA on June 12th, and, largely thanks to their very strong European zone qualification in which they only suffered one defeat, England have been one of the leading candidates to reach the World Cup Final. If they win their group as expected, they will face the runner’s up from Group D which contains Germany, Australia, Serbia and Ghana. With the Germans expected to win, second place could be a tough battle between Ghana and Serbia. World Cup Betting is leaning towards Ghana, so that’s the route we’ll take here. If England win their last 16 match, then the most likely opponents for them in the Quarter Final will be the unpredictable France. Things will definitely start stepping up a gear, as they naturally do in knockout football, as it is likely England well meet the winner of Holland and Brazil in the semi final, with the South Americans favourites to get that far. So there remains a strong possibility of an England v Spain World Cup Final from a patriotic point of view, but Capello may well need first to conquer Brazil to get to the final on July 11th. That means England will have to beat the two favourites to win the trophy.
Potential Opponents: L16 Ghana, QF France, SF Brazil
Italy
It is worth taking a look at the path that lies before the defending champions Italy. Italy won the final at the 2006 World Cup in a penalty shoot out against France. They are outsiders in terms of betting at the World Cup for 2010, but it is worth looking at their potential opponents if you are thinking of betting on Italy at the World Cup. First they will need to navigate a group with Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia, which should not be too difficult a task for World Champions. Winning the group will send them in a last 16 match against the runner’s up from Group E which contains Holland, Denmark, Japan and Cameroon. Who finishes second there is a bit of craps shoot, but scouring online bookmakers looks as if the Africans may just edge it. Naturally there really should not be any easy route to get to the final, and Italy may have to encounter favourites Spain in the Quarter Finals. Their semi final place will then pit them either against European rivals Germany, but most likely Argentina.
Potential Opponents: L16 Cameroon, QF Spain, SF Argentina
