Not the most attractive of groups on paper but one that will play into the favour of those still involved in group 2. Greece and Switzerland currently share top spot although Greece are officially top dog via goal difference. However, there are still four sets of fixtures left to play and neither can afford any sort of slip up.

 

The pair will play each other one more time before the end of qualifying but that doesn’t mean it’s a winner takes all scenario. Switzerland play Greece in the next set of fixtures and the winner would of course go at least three points clear of the nearest pursuer. However, Israel and Latvia will be looking to cause an upset to the pair of them with both countries trailing the leading duet by three and four points respectively.

 

However, Latvia have lost to both Greece and Switzerland already in qualification so there are obvious doubts over their qualifying credentials, while the same can be said for  Israel. They have had the chance to close the gap on the leaders on several occasions but they’ve failed to beat the leading two at home and lost to Greece in Greece.

 

This does look a two-way battle between Greece and Switzerland after looking at the earlier results. Israel and Latvia are not too far behind but there best results have come against the weaker sides in the group in Luxembourg and Moldova, whereas they’ve struggled against the leading pair. Israel shouldn’t be totally discounted though as three of their four remaining qualifiers will be played at home which will be a huge advantage for them.
