Uruguay v Costa Rica Odds & Betting Tips – World Cup 2014 Betting
Uruguay v Costa Rica Betting Preview – World Cup 2014
With or without that man Luis Suarez, Uruguay should bank an easy win here. After knee surgery, it seems a bit pointless to push Suarez into this one, the easiest match for the South Americans in Group D. With Costa Rica looking averagely ordinary, Uruguay should get the winning start.
Uruguay have only lost one match since August of last year, than being a World Cup qualifier away at Uruguay. So they are in pretty good shape, even though they did have their struggles through the CONMEBOL qualification zone, where they finished fifth and had to go through the play off route against AFC side Jordan. Uruguay won the opening leg in Jordan 5-0 and then settled out for a 0-0 draw in the second leg. Wins over Northern Ireland and Slovenia saw them warm up well ahead of the World Cup, all without Luis Suarez, who is working his way back to fitness after a knee surgery.
While Suarez is trading as outright favourite in the anytime goalscorer market for this one, there is better value in looking beyond him at Edinson Cavani and Christian Stuani, the latter being in great goalscoring form heading to Brazil 2014. Cavani can be taken at even money, with Stauni at 2/1 to net at any time. After their great run to the final four back at South Africa 2010, they sort of fell away a bit, highlighted by their struggles through qualification. While they have the firepower to deliver the goods up front, their defence kept letting them down.
Uruguay finished the CONMEBOL qualification with a 0 Goal Difference, which shows how open they were at the back. Still, Oscar Tabarez’s side will grind, they will work, but are perhaps just missing that grit and quality in the centre of the park to glue things altogether. Still, against Costa Rica, it is unlikely that their back line is going to get tested very much and punters should consider a Uruguay to win to nil wager here pretty comfortably.
The form of Costa Rica just isn’t there to impress anyone, or convince punters that they are capable of getting anything out of this game. They are the Group D outsiders and they may well struggle to get a point on the board. They have won just two of their last nine matches played (against Paraguay and Mexico) and have lost matches against Australia, South Korea, Honduras and Japan in a W2 D2 L5 record over those last nine matches. It is highly unlikely that they are going to stand up to a solid side such as Uruguay.

Uruguay v Costa Rica Betting Tips
Would ride this one as a Uruguay to win to nil wager all the way at even money, as they have conceded just the one goal in their last five matches.
Luis Suarez isn’t likely to be risked for this one, so shoot for Christian Stuani who has netted in three of Uruguay’s last four matches at 2/1 in the anytime goalscorer market
Can see Costa Rica coming under heavy pressure early on and therefore look for 6/5 value in the Uruguay/Uruguay Half Time/Full Time market.
