World Cup Qualification Previews & Predictions

This is a great clash between the two front runners in World Cup 2018 down in the CONMEBOL zone. Second placed Uruguay can close to within the one point of leaders Brazil if they can bank a home win over the Selecao, which would do wonders for their automatic qualification hopes. As for Brazil, if they win, they can stretch their legs further at the top of the pile. So this is an important game for both. Brazil will pretty much be a lock to win the qualification group if they take three points in this one while Uruguay will pretty much consolidate an automatic qualification spot. So there is a lot to look forward to in this clash from the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

So a good game is in store and Uruguay have done brilliantly on home soil in World Cup 2018 qualification. They have banked six wins from six on home soil and they have conceded just the one goal in total from that sequence of home games. Impressive stuff but it is likely, because of the amount of goals that Brazil have been scoring, that they are going to struggle to keep the visitors off the scoresheet. There was a great 2-2 draw between these back in March last year, with the Selecao racing out to a 2-0 lead before being back for a share of the spoil in Recife. That draw snapped a three match losing streak that Uruguay were on against Brazil.

Uruguay are now winless in their last eight games against Brazil with a D5 L3 record against and their last win over the Selecao came on home soil in World Cup 2002 qualification. Only Brazil have scored more qualification goals than Uruguay have on the road to Russia 2018 and Edinson Cavani has eight of their 24 qualification goals, and he is the top scorer in qualification at the moment. Cavani is a 23/20 anytime goalscorer option while the game to go over 2.5 goals at bet365 is a good 21/20 price. Four of the last five meetings between them have gone over the goal line so there is a trend there.

Brazil’s Neymar has four goals in his last five World Cup qualifiers and he has netted a total of eight goals in his last eight internationals and he is up at a price of 6/5 in the Bet365 anytime goalscorer market. The Selecao have averaged over two goals per game in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification from their twelve matches, so the value at 4/5 with bet365 on both teams to score appears to be there. Uruguay have managed to beat Brazil just twice in the last fourteen between them

In World Cup 2018 qualification, Brazil have gone W3 D2 L1 from their six games out on the road in qualification, the defeat coming in Chile, who incidentally, took a home win over Uruguay in the last round of matches too. There will be just five qualification matches left for each after this one, so we are at the business end of a long campaign. Uruguay travel to Peru on March 28th, while Brazil face Paraguay at home which are much easier games for both.

Uruguay vs Brazil Betting Tips

Draw: Both would be relatively happy with that at the end of the day. It preserves Brazil’s position at the top and a point against the top side, for Uruguay, would be a bonus. Expect goals at both ends in this one, because they have been been scoring pretty freely so far, but look for the game to settle in a draw.
