World Cup Qualification Previews & Predictions

This is going to be a big clash between these two. There was a 1-1 draw between the two when they meet earlier in the group, but the USA really need to bank a win in this one. They are feeling the pressure because they are outside of the automatic qualification spots with just the two games to play and have to turn up the heat. But Panama are a tight and tidy outfit and they would be happy with a good point out on the road which will keep their hopes of securing an automatic spot at the 2018 World Cup next summer fully alive.

USA vs Panama Betting Tips

The USA are going to be sweating bullets at the moment and they face a high pressure game here. They are sat in fourth place in the group, trailing Panama who occupies the last automatic qualification spot, by one point. The USA have gone W2 D3 L3 in the group and that has been such a poor return from them. Mexico are looking likely to win the group and with Costa Rica doing well as well, it means that the third automatic qualification spot is going to come down to Panama, the USA and Honduras. As well as having to contend with Panama, Honduras are level on points with the USA ahead of the next round of matches. The USA have to produce something in this one to get ahead of Panama. The Americans will have an easy final game against bottom side Trinidad & Tobago so a win in this one and they will be in a strong qualification place. But if they lose this, then they will only be fighting for fourth place, which is the intercontinental play off spot.

The home record of the USA in the qualification group reads W2 L2 so not great at all. They lost their big games against Mexico and Costa Rica while beating the bottom two sides Honduras and Trinidad & Tobago. Their last home game saw them fail to deliver much of anything as they were brushed aside 2-0 by Costa Rica and once again the USA couldn’t handle the pressure of a big game and they just continue to look disjointed. There has been little to convince punters about them in the entire campaign and when they went to Panama earlier in the group, they only managed a 1-1 draw. A 1-1 correct score at bet365 is a price of 6/1 and the shortest priced option a 4/1 price on a USA 1-0. Up in the anytime goalscorer market, the Americans have Clint Dempsey as 5/4 favourite with Jozy Altidore and Bobby Wood there around 6/4.

Going back to that 1-1 scoreline, that has happened in each of the last four meetings between these at all venues. So there have been some tight scraps and both teams not to score at bet365 is a price of 4/7. Panama are going to turn up in a resilient mood, knowing that a point keeps the USA behind them, so they have the motivation to dig in and make life difficult for the hosts. Panama have recorded a W2 D4 L2 record in the group so far. Defensively they are very tidy, but they are lacking in the goal scoring department as they have netted less than a goal per game in qualification. Panama have gone W1 D1 L2 away from home and one of those defeats was a shock result in Trinidad. The picture would be looking a lot worse for the USA if Panama hadn’t have suffered that defeat. All four of Panama’s away games have seen one goal or less and they only lost 1-0 in Mexico and played out a 0-0 draw in Costa Rica. Those were a good four points collected and shows what they are capable of.
