Spain v Russia- World Cup 2018

Spain vs Russia World Cup Prediction 1st July 2018 – 3.00 p.m

Some big calls to make in Spain vs Russia predictions. Do you look at the spirited earlier performances from Russia in this tournament and back them to come through against Spain’s leaky defence? Or was it more of a case of what was expected from the Russians as they lost heavily to Uruguay in their final group stage match? Spain haven’t been terribly convincing defensively at all during this tournament yet, but they are going as favourites here to make progress through to the quarter finals.

Spain vs Russia Odds*

Spain 8/13
Draw 29/10
Russia 11/2

Who will win Spain vs Russia?

This should be an interesting all-European clash and that is because of the weaknesses that Spain’s back line has shown at the tournament. It hasn’t been good at all and Russia have had their moments in this World cup pushing forward. Who will win Spain vs Russia and move ahead to the final eight? The Spaniards may just have that extra quality to pull through and get the job done in the end.

More to come from Red Fury

Now it has not been great from Spain at the 2018 World Cup so far but there has to be better to come from them. Spain have had some stresses in their group stage at this tournament but they managed to come through undefeated and keep their long unbeaten streak of form since Euro 2016 going. They have been poor at the back through individual mistakes and they have conceded five goals in their three games so far at Russia 2018. Worryingly looking at their chances of winning this tournament outright they were under huge pressure from both Iran and Morocco in the group stage. But they survived and we are looking at over 2.5 goals for our Spain v Russia prediction and that is at 11/10 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 28th, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.).

Spain are capable of putting goals on the board and can get the game above that goal-line even if their defence does show up and play well. They have the bonus of a striker being in form with Diego Costa scoring three goals during the group stage and Costa is the 10/3 first goalscorer favourite* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 28th, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.). As mentioned Spain are on a long undefeated streak of form and they are W7 D5 in their last 12. Spain have alternated between a draw and a win in each of their last seven games interestingly, and if that sequence continues they would be up for a win in this one. The Spaniards have two clean sheets in their last eight games.

Russians peaked too soon?

We have seen two interesting sides of Russia so far at the World Cup. They came out of the gates firing on all cylinders as they produced a 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia and then beat Egypt 3-1. So that was such a positive start from them even though they had gone into this tournament on a seven-match winless streak of form and with expectations at rock bottom. Then when it came to their one tough group stage game, which was against Uruguay in a battle for top spot, Russia fell so short and suffered a 3-0 defeat. They just weren’t in the game and looked a long way short of the kind of quality that Uruguay were at.

Because they bottled it so badly in the one competitive game for our Spain v Russia prediction we are going with both teams not to score at 7/10 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 28th, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.). Russia have lost five of their last 11 fixtures, winning just three in that sequence. They have also managed just one clean sheet in that run of 11 games and Spain are likely to pry them open. Again, going back to the fact that they looked so poor against Uruguay in their one tough match so far we are going with Spain to win to nil at 11/8* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on June 28th, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.). It is all well and good making light work of weak opposition but the proof is there that they aren’t likely to progress.

Spain vs Russia Prediction

We have to side with Spain coming through this task. Russia may have impressed against weaker opponents in the group stage but when it came to a tough challenge they could not handle themselves at all. We are backing Spain to get the win to nil in the fixture.
