Sweden v Switzerland- World Cup 2018

Sweden vs Switzerland World Cup Prediction 3rd July 2018 – 3.00 p.m

This is going to be a tough battle in this round of sixteen clash and it would not be a huge surprise if it went beyond 90 minutes. Switzerland came through a tough group which contained Serbia and Brazil to finish second behind the South Americans. Sweden meanwhile topped out their group and they finished the group stage with a bang in demolishing Mexico. This may be a long war of attrition here for a place in the quarter finals against either Colombia or England.

Sweden vs Switzerland Odds*

Switzerland 17/10
Draw 2/1
Sweden 21/10

Who will win Sweden vs Switzerland?

Hard to judge really who will win Sweden vs Switzerland and that’s because they are evenly matched. Not many punters would have put one of these two in the quarter finals before the tournament started but that is the opportunity in front of them. Who is going to be bold enough to step up to the plate and get the job done?

Scrappy Sweden look strong

Even money on Sweden to qualify* (Betting Odds were taken from July 1st, 2018 at 8:05 p.m.)? We will take that all day long as we look at Sweden v Switzerland predictions. Sweden have looked far from being the most technically gifted side at the 2018 World Cup, but they have shown plenty of spirit and determination and they just don’t look as if they are going to roll over. The goals have really dried up for them since they manage to book a place at the 2018 World Cup by beating Italy in the play-offs. However, they broke out of their shell and pummelled Mexico 3-0 in their final group stage match and that was a pressure game with qualification still on the line. It was a really good result too because in their previous game Sweden had suffered a hammer blow by conceding a goal against Germany deep into stoppage time which saw them lose 2-1.

After all the effort that they put into that match against the Germans, I could’ve knocked the wind out of them instead they responded really well and showed good character. The half-time draw for Sweden v Switzerland predictions is strong as four of the five goals at the Swedes have scored so far at the tournament have been after the halftime break. This just has a low scoring game written all over it to the point where we are considering Under 1.5 goals at 11/8 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from July 1st, 2018 at 8:05 p.m.). Naturally, both of these will be somewhat cautious given that there is a huge prize of a quarter-final place against England or Columbia. Sweden are W2 D2 L2 in their last six games but that dramatic defeat against Germany is their only loss in five.

Switzerland steady and predictable

No one really expected Switzerland to get a point out of their opening match against Brazil, but that was the point earned out of the organisation. The Swiss also had to show more spirit in the group stage when they found themselves trailing Serbia which was hugely problematic for Switzerland in their qualification hopes. But they turned it around in the second half grabbing a late win and then rounded off their group stage campaign with a 2-2 draw against Costa Rica. So Switzerland have not been rock solid at the back having not taken a clean sheet yet. But still because this is a World Cup round of 16 clash and teams naturally tighten up, we are going with both teams not to score at 8/13 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from July 1st, 2018 at 8:05 p.m.).

Switzerland do have a bit of form as they have gone undefeated in their last six games, winning three and drawing three of those. But they have only taken one clean sheet in their last five games which was a friendly against Japan. While Switzerland will get the ball down and knock it around much more than Sweden will, they don’t look particularly great up front and indeed it is Sweden’s Marcus Berg who is the 13/2 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from July 1st, 2018 at 8:05 p.m.) favorite in the first goalscorer market for this game. Switzerland go as favourites having suffered just one defeat in their last 13 games and remaining unbeaten in nine.

Sweden vs Switzerland Prediction

This is going to be a tight contest and this will probably be another of those knockout stage wars of attrition. There is every chance at this is going to go beyond the 90 min and we like the even money odds on Sweden to qualify. They have had their problems up front, but if they use the momentum from beating Mexico and just through their direct play they can unravel Switzerland.
