BOBBY MOORE

BORN:  APR. 17, 1941
COUNTRY: England
WORLD CUP APPEARANCES:  3 tournaments ('62, '66, '70)
CLUBS: West Ham United, San Antonio Thunder, Seattle Sounders

INTRODUCTION:  Captain of 1966 World Cup winning team.  One of the greatest defenders of the World Cup and arguably the best tackler in the game.

1962 World Cup - Chile
He made his World Cup debut at the 1962 World Cup in Chile, and at 21, already displayed his coolness in defence.
1966 World Cup - England
GREAT CAPTAIN
Moore's skills and leadership won England the World Cup in 1966.
In 1966, he captained England to win the World Cup on home territory.  He again proved to be extremely solid in  the heart of the defense.  In the final against West Germany, he gave an outastanding performance, creating the first and third of England's goal.  After the victory, many journalist voted him as the player of the tournament, ahead of Eusebio, Hungary's Albert and his compatriot, Bobby Charlton.
1970 World Cup - Mexico

STILL A MASTER
Playing in his third World Cup, Moore was still going strong.

He maintained his superb form for the next four years and again captained England for the Mexico '70.  At this time, the soccer world had considered Bobby Moore as the world's greatest defender. So difficult to beat on the ground, he was the major reason why Pele and his amazing Brazilians scored only one goal past them in the first round, their lowest in the entire competition.  But the loss of Banks for the West Germany game proved to be too much and England bowed out to their European rivals.
