1966 World Cup - England In 1966, an injury to first-choice England striker Jimmy Greaves led Sir Alf Ramsey to play Geoff Hurst.  This turned out to be an inspired choice as Hurst formed a successful strike force with Roger Hunt, adapting to the new "wingless" 4-4-2 formation.  Hurst netted the winning goal against Argentina in the quarter final.  He went on to score three goals in the final against West Germany, including a controversial second goal.
