BORN:  AUG. 23, 1910
COUNTRY: Italy
WORLD CUP APPEARANCES:  2 tournaments ( '34, '38)
CLUBS: Internazionale, Milan, Juventus, Varese, Atalanta
INTRODUCTION: Two-time World Cup winner and captain of the 1938 winning team.  Meazza was the greatest European player in the pre-war World Cups.
CAREER INTERNATIONAL GOALS: 33 in 53 games

1934 World Cup - Italy
Meazza was a versatile forward who can play both inside-right and center-forward.  In 1934, Italian manager Pozzo used Schiavio at center-forward and converted Meazza to an inside-left.  Meazza made a huge contribution to Italy's successful World Cup campaign.  Against Spain, Italy needed a replay to defeat their great rivals and Meazza scored the winning goal.

1938 World Cup - France
Four years later, Meazza became captain of the Azzuri. He partnered the new center-forward Piola in the new Italian attack and the country successfully retained the trophy.  He was one of the two players who appeared in both 1934 and 1938 World Cup winning teams.
