INTRODUCTION: After Garrincha, Jairzinho was the most successful right-winger in World Cup history. Played in three World Cups.

1966 World Cup - England
At 22, he played alongside his idol, a fadingGarrincha, at the 1966 finals.  With the Little Bird still playing on the right, Jairzinho was sometimes used on the left.  The pair of wingers both played in a World Cup classic match which they lost to Hungary. 1970 World Cup - Mexico
SHOW TIME
Jairzinho celebrated with Pele for the opening goal in the final.
Four years later, Jairzinho was one of the stars in the 1970 tournament.  In the semi-final against Uruguay, Jaircinho scored a crucial goal late in the second half.  Running deep inside his own half, he combined with Pele and Tostao and outpaced the Uruguayuan defense to score.

Jairzinho also played an important role in the victory over Italy in the Final, scoring a cup-clinching third goal and also had a hand in the fourth Brazilian goal.  Scoring 7goals in 6 games, he help Brazil to win the World Cup for then a record three times.   He was the first, and still, the only player to have scored in every round of World Cup matches.
1974 World Cup - West Germany

NEW HAIRSTYLE, NEW POSITION
Jairzinho, 30, lost his scoring touch after playing at center-forward. 

Four years later, he was played out of position at center-forward in the World Cup in West Germany.  Jairzinho bowed out of the competition with only 2 goals.  But he was one of the few stars in a defensive-minded Brazilian team which failed todefend their title.
