Brazil are going to be top of the pile in most punters World Cup 2014 Group A Predictions list, and not just in the group winner market either. The host nation, who entertain Croatia in the 2014 World Cup curtain raiser on Thursday, June 12th, are expected to come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders and frankly not look back. The Selecao are heavy favourites to top their group at odds of 1/4 and none of the other three nations, perhaps unfortunate to be lumped in with Brazil, can even get close to them in the market.

For that opening World Cup 2014 match, Brazil are priced up at 1/3 favourites to get the better of Croatia, who are a long, distant 12/1 shot to earn maximum points in Rio. Not likely to happen, especially when you factor in all of the special atmosphere from the partisan crowd who will be in party mode. The thing about that, is that it should turn out to be Brazil’s toughest game at the tournament too, because they only have to face up to Mexico and Cameroon in the group, and they look weaker than what Croatia are going to be able to produce.

So in World Cup 2014 Group A Predictions, top spot should be pretty well wrapped up and it is hard to see any deviation from there. The biggest battle is then going to be behind them as to who can follow them through. The likelihood is that the runner up in this group will have to go on and face Spain in the next round, so there is a pretty tough ride ahead. Mexico are actually trading at 6/5 ahead of Croatia’s price of 13/10 to qualify from the group, but there is probably going to be better value on the Europeans.

Croatia looked solid through their World Cup qualification campaign, if not spectacular by any means, and frankly, Mexico weren’t. Mexico struggled badly in a terribly weak zone, and have switched managers like there is no tomorrow and don’t look a settled side. They aren’t that strong at the back and they don’t have a lot of firepower in their ranks. Croatia have the fight and grit at the back, conceding just nine goals during their qualification process to edge out the Mexicans here, but it will be by grinding their way through.

As for Cameroon, the Indomitable Lions aren’t going to get away with not being frightened or defeated in this group. The African nation don’t look to have a lot in their tank at all, and while memories of past World Cup heroics will give their travelling support some hope, they are likely to finish bottom of the pile. In fact, they are 4/6 favourites to do just that and their best chance of a point really looks to be in their opener against Mexico on June 13th.

World Cup 2014 Group A Predictions:
Brazil should win the group comfortably and that’s not in question, but Mexico look to be priced up far too short to qualify and would lean towards instead Croatia. A Brazil/Croatia Straight Forecast option in 2014 World Cup betting is attractive at 9/4
