World Cup Previews & Predictions

This is a fascinating group because there is so much at stake early on in the tournament. Heading up the group are Spain and Holland, but with the enterprising Chile in the mix as well, this group could certainly have some legs. Spain have been trading as strong 4/5 favourites to win Group B and that will be massively important because it will mean avoiding Brazil in the first knockout round. So there is a huge prize to play for in avoiding the host nation at the first knockout hurdle.

Despite the competitiveness of the group, reigning World Champions Spain are 2/9 favourites to qualify.

Spain open up on Friday, June 13th against Holland, a big European clash which will have massive qualification implications. If the Spaniards get that first win on the board, then you can see them easing their way to getting the job done in grabbing top spot. That would leave Holland scrapping it out with Chile for the spoils of second place. Holland are priced at 8/13 to qualify, with the South Americans looking an attractive outside shot at 6/5.

So are we simply looking at a two horse race for second place here?

Not entirely, because Chile are such a wildcard. They can play, they can get the ball down, they are quick and can open up defences. They also won’t be afraid to have a go at either European side and they have also been handed what looks to be a very comfortable opener as well as they take on Australia. The confidence of getting maximum points in the bag in your first game is immense. They then roll on to face Spain in their second match and they will cause the reigning champions problems, but it could be their clash with Holland on June 23rd which settles who would be joining Spain.

That is if Spain, who are 7/1 shots defend their title, don’t get tripped up in their two opening, tough matches. This is a hugely entertaining looking group and while it is more than probable that one of the two European sides are going to get the spoils of top spot, the presence of Chile just adds that air of mystery about it all. Chile are long 5/1 shots to actually win the group, but they look as if they could take points off Spain and the Netherlands. So interesting connotations all around. Chile know how to attack, when it comes to defending, well not so much, but they look a fearless side that teams won’t have an easy time facing up to.

It makes having a Straight Forecast on this one really tough, just because World Cup 2014 Group B Predictions are tough to call even in the group winner market. However, the experience of Spain, and the winning mentality that they have, should see them to top spot, again placing a huge emphasis on the Chile v Holland game. A Spain/Chile Forecast is priced at 7/2, with a Spain/Netherlands option at 2/1.

World Cup 2014 Group B Predictions
Can see Spain having the better composure to avoid defeat in that opener against the Netherlands, and their patient style of football should then see them do enough against Chile and outsiders Australia to top the group. The Netherlands look as if they could have a harder time containing the South American challenge and can see Chile following Spain through.
