World Cup 2014 Group E Predictions
There is a pretty interesting group to weigh up over in World Cup 2014 Group E predictions. There, the two European nations of France and Switzerland are favourites, but the presence of Ecuador has the potential to throw a spanner in either of their respective works. Making up the numbers in the group is Honduras, who are 1/3 favourites to finish bottom of the pile.
So who is likely to take supremacy in the Group E?
Well France are riding as 4/5 favourites, punters recognising that they may just have a good bit of fight in them after their big comeback in the UEFA zone play-offs against the Ukraine. That has helped them move to odds on favourites to win Group E at Brazil 2014, but it is France and they can be pretty unpredictable. Look what happened to them four years ago in South Africa when they finished bottom of their group.
But Didier Deschamps has them going relatively well and if the France that played the second leg of their playoff against the Ukraine turns up for all of their games at Brazil 2014, then they really could be a great dark horse shot. France are trading at a price of 22/1 in the outright winner market for World Cup 2014 betting. They have a great looking squad, but there is also that air of causation over backing them heavily, mainly down to their mentality.
So Switzerland could have a genuine shot at winning the group here. The Swiss are a rapidly improving side in World football and shouldn’t be dismissed off the bat. They have a great crop of young players, they are adventurous and could be another surprise package. This isn’t the dull Switzerland of four years ago. They qualified easily for Brazil 2014, shipping just the six goals in their ten qualification games. They also took a 1-0 friendly win over Brazil in Basel back in August of 2013. They almost went unbeaten through 2013, but lost their last game of the year 2-1 in South Korea.
So there is a decent young Swiss side to look, but the issue with them in standing them against France is they don’t look to have as many goals in them as Les Bleus do. So a narrow supremacy should go to France, but Switzerland are great 4/5 value to qualify. So what about Ecuador? They make it through to Brazil 2014 on goal difference, sending Uruguay to a play-off. Ecuador could be a puzzle for France and Switzerland to break down.
The strengths of the South Americans are at the back, and they don’t look as if they have the big firepower to go too far. Their star is Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia and Ecuador are 20/19 to qualify for the knockout stage. They managed that on their last World Cup appearance in Germany 2016 when they lost in the round of sixteen.
So Ecuador are a hard working side who could frustrate. But they may have to grind their way through. Switzerland open against Ecuador and that will be a tricky test for the Europeans to get off the mark, while France have the easiest opener against group outsiders Honduras. So on the face of it, World Cup 2014 Group E predictions should lean towards France and Switzerland, but Ecuador could just make a nuisance of himself defensively to hang in the picture.
