World Cup 2018 Betting Predictions

World Cup football betting is heating up with teams confirming their official World Cup Squad. Paraguay’s coach Gerardo Martino has announced his 23 man squad ahead of the June 1st deadline. The big news for Barclays Premier League fans, is that Manchester City star Roque Santa Cruz has been included in the party, along with Sunderland’s Paulo da Silva. Santa Cruz is the big name, but has had a season full of interruptions from injury. He has been passed fit, and will fill a vital role at the World Cup for Paraguay. The other main news from the Paraguay camp, is that Borussia Dortmund player Lucas Barrios has been included. Striker Barrios shows a great deal of promise, and is an exciting talent, but he grabbed the headlines after he switched nationality from his Argentinean birth nationality, thanks to his mother being Paraguayan. His 18 goals for his club in the league this season, is a testament to how much he could shine on the World Stage at South Africa 2010. Barrios is one of six forwards that Paraguay are taking to the World Cup, showing the intent they have to take games to opposition.

The South Americans are currently in Switzerland at a training camp, and take on Greece on Wednesday in a friendly, who are also heading to the World Cup. Paraguay have attracted some interest in World Cup Odds simply because they have pulled together well as a team, and became a real threat to claim top spot in their qualification zone. What Martino has done, is instilled a stronger team ethic, which has helped them become sterner at the back. They conceded a mean 16 goals in the South American qualification zone. That gives them a good chance, in Group F against Italy, New Zealand and Slovakia. In World Cup Betting at Totesport Paraguay are second favourites to qualify from the Group behind favourites Italy. Totesport have them priced at 1/2 to qualify from the group, which is pretty strong odds. Paraguay will be helped by the draw favoring them with two considered outsiders in the Kiwis and the Slovakians.

The big match in Group F could be between Paraguay and Slovakia in the fight for second place. One thing that Paraguay may look towards is the fact they play Italy in their group opener. What this means, is that with the right fire in their bellies, they could catch the Italians cold, before they get into their stride. Paraguay are the outside bet in that match, as they are out at around 4/1 to beat the Italians, but the match could be a lot closer than betting odds may suggest. Paraguay played out a 2-2 draw with Sven Goran Eriksson’s Ivory Coast in an International Friendly on Sunday, which followed a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Republic of Ireland. This is the eight time Paraguay have been at the World Cup finals, having never been beyond the last sixteen. With the World Cup Fixtures laid out as they are for the strong South American’s, maybe 2010 will see them go further than before under Martino.
