Belgium v Portugal International Friendly, 2nd June

The reigning European champions Portugal could use a boost as they step out to face the Red Devils over the weekend. The Portuguese were held to a draw against England’s World Cup group stage opponents Tunisia back on Monday and there were worrying signs at the back. Belgium meanwhile are ticking along in very nice form and look fully capable of living up to their label as the main underdog challenger to the big four front-runners at the 2018 World Cup.

Belgium v Portugal Betting Tips

This will be a good workout for Belgium, because they may have to be patient and try and find a way to break down what is generally a decent defensive side in Portugal. Belgium have recorded some good form recently with five victories in their last six fixtures picking up a draw in the other one during the sequence. Back in the March internationals Belgium had a couple of easier games as they took expected wins over Japan and Saudi Arabia, two sides who are also going to be appearing at Russia 2018. Belgium will want to get the best out of their powerful attack, as they will battle with England for supremacy in Group G at the 2018 World Cup, and goal difference could be important in the challenge.

The bonus for Belgium over England is that the Red Devils have a wealth of attacking talent through the likes of dynamic forces Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne well they have a quality goalscorer in Romelu Lukaku. So you would expect the Belgians to come up with goals and indeed they have scored at least two goals in all but one of their last six games. Even though Portugal are more the defensive side, they looked poor in a friendly this week against Tunisia. A Belgium 2-1 correct score option at bet365 is 8/1 odds* (Betting Odds taken at 5:04 a.m. on May 28th, 2018).

During their World Cup qualification campaign, Belgium won nine of their ten games played (D1) and the last loss that the Red Devils suffered was against Spain all the way back in September 2016. Since that loss against the Spaniards, Belgium have posted an impressive W11 D4 record and are justifiably favourites to win this game against Portugal. Belgium have actually beaten Portugal before as they trail 3-0 in the head-to-head with the Portuguese with the one drawn game. Portugal took a 2-1 victory over Belgium in their last meeting which was a friendly in 2016.

Both teams to score at bet365 is at even money* (Betting Odds taken at 5:04 a.m. on May 28th, 2018) and there is a trend to back as both teams have scored in three of the previous four contests. Portugal saw their  2-0 lead slip away against Tunisia on Monday as they let the African nation back into the game to earn a 2-2 draw. In the second half of a fixture, Portugal’s defence looked very sloppy and that will be a big concern of them ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Even though Portugal have to face Spain in their World Cup group stage opener, the rest of the group is manageable for them and the reigning European champions will be expected to be in the knockout phase of the tournament. The Portuguese haven’t picked up a clean sheet in any of their last four games and in their last two fixtures alone they have conceded a total of five goals. They are taking on the very dynamic and powerful Belgium attack and the likelihood of them conceding is going to be high.

Who will win – Belgium v Portugal Predictions

Portugal don’t look anything particularly special at the moment, and it is worth rolling along in backing Belgium to get the win on the board as fixture. There were enough cracks in the Portugal back line against Tunisia to suggest that Belgium will not have too many problems in opening them up. Belgium to win and both teams to score looks decent proposition.
