Brazil v Croatia Betting Tips

The Selecao will need to redeem themselves after a flat performance in their final warm up match saw them take a 1-0 win over Serbia. They will face similar opposition in Croatia in their opening World Cup match and the home fans will be hoping for a much better performance. Brazil were subjected to booing from their own support in the Serbia game, they were that flat. Still, you imagine that the atmosphere in Sao Paulo will get them going, and grinding out wins is part and parcel of winning tournaments. They aren’t going to be at their best all the team. Brazil are in great form in terms of results ahead of the tournament, having lost one match since March of 2013, that being a friendly against Switzerland. Since that defeat, they have put together a nine match winning streak and they have kept clean sheets in seven of those matches. It’s not all about attack for Brazil, they are more than handy at the back.

Critics will say that they haven’t faced really top quality opposition for a long time, but that won’t come into play until later in the tournament. Wins over Portugal, Chile and Serbia being their biggest scalps during the World Cup build up. Neymar, one of the favourites to win the Golden Boot is their big hope up front, and will be looking to put a disappointing first season with Barcelona behind him to help fire Brazil to success. He is trading at 8/11 in the anytime goalscorer market, while his big support man Fred looks full of value at even money as well. There’s a great, powerful-running midfield behind the front men, and Brazil will get at teams, especially with a partisan crowd behind them. Nothing less than a convincing opening win will appease the home support, and they are 4/5 shots to do it to nil.

Croatia should be Brazil’s toughest opponents in Group A of Brazil 2014. So a win for Brazil and they should cruise to the knockouts. As for Croatia, it would be a huge win for them if they could grind out a draw here, and they are unbeaten in their last five matches now. They have been fairly understated in their build up, their toughest match being a 2-2 draw against Switzerland. But they look efficient, technically sound and posted clean sheet wins over Mali and Australia before heading to South America. You don’t expect a lot of adventure and power from the Croatians in this one, there are more winnable matches against Mexico and Cameroon to come, so again, a point would be huge. Mario Mandzukic is their star man, but with the Europeans trying to keep things as tight as possible, it could force the game under 2.5 goals.

Brazil v Croatia Head To Head
There has been just the two previous meetings between the two nations, with Brazil holding a 1-0 head to head lead. That came in their most recent meeting, which was in the group stage of the 2006 World Cup, Brazil winning 1-0.

This should be a winnable match for Brazil, given the occasion and atmosphere and their winning form, it’ll take a brave punter to go against them. Expect them to get the job done and it could be worth pushing to win to nil for 4/5
