Egypt v Uruguay - World Cup 2018

Egypt vs Uruguay World Cup 2018 Preview 15th June – 1.00 p.m
(Endergebnis 0:1 – goals: Giménez 90´)

This could well be a very entertaining fixture as Egypt, who will be hoping that Mo Salah can get some game time in their opener, will look to try and dig something out of this against the Group A favourites. Uruguay will be looking to their key duo up front to fire them to an opening victory, which will no doubt raise interest in their dark horse status at the tournament.

Egypt vs Uruguay Preview

The South Americans are favourites to collect a victory in this one and it’s not hard to see why really. First up they have a fantastic strikeforce with a partnership of Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez who both have tremendous records for their country. Cavani incidentally was the top goalscorer in the CONMEBOL qualification. So between them, you would expect Uruguay to cause Egypt’s defence some problems in this opening fixture for both. Uruguay are clearly one of the strong dark course options at the tournament because of the goalscoring threat of Cavani and Suarez who are at 10/3 and 3/1 odds respectively* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.) in the bet365 first goalscorer market.

In-form Uruguay to start strongly?

Uruguay were unruffled through their qualification campaign, the only side apart from Brazil from South America to qualify with a fair degree of comfort. They are favourites to win Group A at Russia 2018 and will expect to get off to a positive start in this one having won their last three games. Uruguay have suffered only one defeat since the beginning of September 2017 and in their last nine games alone they have collected six clean sheets. Uruguay always turn up and produced a tough defence and Uruguay to win to nil is at 5/4 odds at bet365* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.) which appeals a lot.

In expecting Uruguay to shut down the attack of Egypt, that will open some reasonable options in the bet365 correct score market for Egypt v Uruguay betting. You have a Uruguay 1-0 at 4/1 and a Uruguay 2-0 is at 5/1 odds* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.). It is reasonable to think that Uruguay will create enough chances to make a breakthrough and they have only failed to score in one of their last six games played. Top of all that they are facing an Egyptian side who are not carrying any form forward to the 2018 World Cup with them.

Egypt wait on Salah fitness

Time will tell whether or not Mo Salah will be fit enough play any real part in the tournament after any shoulder in the UEFA champions league final. Frankly, even if he was fully fit and in the side, Uruguay would still look relatively comfortable against the Africans. Egypt have failed to collect a win in any of their last six games played, losing three of those so have no momentum or confidence behind them. They may well struggle to get any kind of change out of Uruguay’s defence as Egypt have failed to score in three of their last four games totalling one only in that sequence.

Egypt suffered a 3-0 loss against Belgium in their final World Cup warm-up match and both teams not to score is at 8/15 odds with bet365* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.). So it is little difficult to find where the value is in backing Egypt to even avoid defeat in this opening fixture there is. A point would be great for them as it would keep their interests alive going into their second fixture which is against host nation Russia. But this is a tough game for Egypt to try and deal with and under 2.5 goals at bet365 for 8/15 odds* (betting odds taken on June 11th at 6:11 p.m.) may well play itself out.

Egypt v Uruguay Predictions

This is not going to be an easy game for Egypt to manage as Uruguay are much stronger in all departments than the North Africans are. Look for the South Americans to manage themselves well in this game and they have the defence to help them pull off a victory to nil to set themselves on course to challenge for top spot in Group A.
