England Squad news as it comes…

Current list of players omitted from England Squad: Michael Dawson, Scott Parker, Tom Huddlestone, Darren Bent, Adam Johnson, Leighton Baines and Theo Walcott

While there has been good news on the injury front with the steady recovery of midfielder Gareth Barry, with the Man City holding-midfielder now likely to be part of the final 23 heading to South Africa with England, Darren Bent was the first to receive his packing orders from coach Fabio Capello and WON’T be travelling to South Africa with the rest of the England squad.

The positive news of Gareth Barry, an integral player in Capello’s South Africa plans, and the willingness of the medical staff and the FA to allow the news to filter through means Barry is likely to be included in Capello’s final 23.

Also, it would appear Jermain Defoe is a definite traveller. Michael Carrick’s luck was clearly in as he, too, appears safe from Capello’s axe.

Theo Walcott left out in one of the more surprising axes, although we did anticipated his omittence even if we didn’t necessairly tip it. It would appear Shaun Wright-Philips has snatched Walcott’s spot in the squad right from under his feet with his energetic display in the second half against Japan last Sunday.

Fantastic news; Joe Cole has been named in the final 23. We’re delighted with that news, as Cole’s professionalism and commitment to the game, and his love for his country, will serve England well in South Africa.

Sad news; bright winger, Adam Johnson, hasn’t made the cut although that wasn’t a surprise. Promising future though.

Another twist sees Leighton Baines omitted and Warnock included despite the Villa left-back not playing against either Mexico or Japan.

Ledley King, who has been plagued with a knee injury for years, will travel with England to South Africa after seemingly proving his fitness to Capello.

The final three players to miss out on South Africa 2010 are Michael Dawson, Scott Parker and Tom Huddlestone. No real surprises there then.
