This World Cup 2018 inter-confederation qualification tie should be a pretty close contest. Honduras missed out on automatic qualification from CONCACAF on goal difference only to Panama. But they probably won’t be fearing too much as the Socceroos come for a visit as Australia were not without their problems through qualification and have already been through a play off round when they edged Syria in the AFC qualification play off.

Honduras vs Australia Betting Tips

It was a tight squeeze from Honduras to get into the play off spot from CONCACAF. They faced group winners Mexico in their final qualifier and they hung on for a 3-2 victory. That was enough, with the USA suffering a shock defeat against Trinidad & Tobago and it saw Honduras beat out the Americans to the play off spot. So the USA won’t be in Russia next summer. Honduras have work to do still to get there. At home in their qualifiers, they went W2 D2 L1 and they aren’t a side which inspires very much excitement most of the time. They managed just above a goal per game through the qualifiers and they failed to collect a clean sheet at home. They conceded at just under two goals per game as well and both teams to score at bet365 suddenly looks a bit of value at a price of 11/10. This will be the first competitive match, competitive or friendly between the two countries. Top scorer for Honduras in the qualifiers was Romell Quioto and he is a price of 10/3 in the anytime goalscorer market for this one. They have had a really busy year in having produced a W10 D7 L6 record from 23 games. They are currently on a four match unbeaten streak of form and Mexico are the only side to beat them in their last seven.

Australia for once didn’t have a clear run in World Cup qualification as they could only finish third in their group behind Japan and Saudi Arabia. That put them into a play off against Syria who had finished third in the other AFC qualification group. After a 1-1 draw in Malaysia against Syria in the first leg of that play off, Australia needed extra time at home to win though, Tim Cahill netting a 109th minute winner for the Socceroos. But throughout qualification, the Socceroos have had to work hard. On the road in the group, they only went W1 D2 L2 and managed one clean sheet only. Cahill, who scored both goals against Syria in the second leg of their play off, is a 15/4 anytime goalscorer, while Tomi Juric, who was their top scorer in the group stage, is a 9/4 option. In the bet365 correct score market, a 1-1 draw is in at a short 5/1 price. The Socceroos took part in the Confederations Cup in the summer, losing against Germany and playing out 1-1 draws with Cameroon and Chile. They have a W2 D3 L3 record in their last eight played.

There shouldn’t be too much between the two sides and both have made pretty hard work of things in their respective qualification campaigns. Australia look to have a slight edge, but the outright draw in this match has a lot of appeal.
