Morocco vs Iran World Cup 2018 Preview 15th June – 4.00 p.m
(Full time: 0:1 – goals: Bouhaddouz (OG) 95´)

Morocco and Iran have a tough task ahead of them to try and dial in on any qualification hopes. That is because they are in Group B alongside Portugal and Spain who are the favourites to occupy the top two spots at the end of the group stage action. But this is an important game for both of these as it does represent a chance to get a good World Cup victory under their belt in what is likely to be nothing more than a race for third place.

Morocco vs Iran Preview

Morocco will be looking to build on a good run of form that they have produced in this calendar year as they are undefeated in 2018, beating the likes of Serbia and Slovakia along the way in that run of matches. So they should hit the ground running and be full of confidence about picking up three points in this fixture against Iran. The North Africans are unbeaten in five games in 2018 winning four of them and they have done well in front of goal too having scored at least two goals in six of their last eight games. In the bet365 correct score market, a Morocco 1-0 result is at 4/1 odds with a bolder Morocco 2-0 option at 8/1 odds* (betting odds taken on June 11th, 2018 at 5:56 p.m.). Morocco won their qualification group in the CAF without conceding a single goal in six matches.

Atlas Lions defensive strengths

Morocco to win to nil is a 21/10 odds option at bet365* (betting odds taken on June 11th, 2018 at 5:56 p.m.) and should be a pretty decent place to start for this game. Morocco are undefeated in their last seven fixtures winning eight of them so you can look back further into their current form and still see huge positives. That is the kind of thing that will only breed confidence and self-belief. At the back, they have six clean sheets in their last seven and it is going to be an important thing for them to get off to a winning start here if they want to challenge Portugal for a qualification spot. The Atlas Lions will look to their main strikers  of Khalid Boutaïb and Ayoub El Kaabi to drive them to success.

Can Iran rise to the occasion?

Iran were relatively untroubled through their qualification campaign not losing any of their 10 games in their group. They only conceded two goals too. You look at the form of their last 10 games and it’s pretty comparable to that of Morocco’s. Iran have gone W7 D1 L2 in their last ten, but the big difference though is that they really haven’t met a high-quality opponent in that run. The toughest of games for Iran ended in a draw with Russia and defeat against Turkey. So you have to take that into consideration that they haven’t really been tested against a half decent side. But they will go into this game in exactly the same boat as Morocco with it being their best chance of collecting a win in the group with Spain and Portugal still to come.

Iran look the underdogs and it’s hard to see where they are going to be able to raise their game enough to take down a confident Morocco side. Both teams not to score is at 8/15 odds with bet365* (betting odds taken on June 11th, 2018 at 5:56 p.m.) and that is worth a look considering the number of clean sheets that Morocco have collected recently. Iran don’t have a great track record at the World Cup either, having won only one of their previous 12 games played in previous World Cup tournaments. It was a good qualification campaign but this is a step up to another level and Iran may not be able to make the grade. This will be just the second game between the two nations, the previous one was a 2002 international friendly which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Morocco v Iran Predictions

Morocco to win by a one-goal margin looks a solid proposition for this Group B fixture. Because this is the best shot both of them have at landing a win in the tournament, hopefully, it is an open game. Of the two right now it is the North Africans who are carrying the better form and they should just be able to grind out the three points.
