World Cup 2018 Betting Predictions

England’s road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup starts on Sunday as they head out to Trnava to take on Slovakia. These two clashed recently at Euro 2016 of course and that match, which was heavily dominated by a much-changed England side, still managed to end up in a 0-0 draw. That didn’t suit the Three Lions at all and now they are tasked with trying to overthrow the Slovakian again to kick off their World Cup 2018 qualification campaign.

England’s record against Slovakia is W3 D1 so they have head to head form and they have shut out the Slovakians in their last two meetings. So there are good signs here for England, who are under the watchful eye of new boss Sam Allardyce. Eight of the players that started that game against Slovakia in the summer are back in action against them again but hopefully for the Three Lions, they will be carrying a much  more ruthless streak in the final third of the pitch. England had 28 shots against Slovakia at Euro 2018 and didn’t manage to net.

You have to convert chances and they can expect to be up against a dogged defence again. So can the Three Lions make the break through this time around? England went through their Euro 2016 qualification campaign with a 100% winning record and that campaign happened to kick off on the road against Switzerland, setting them up for their brilliant run, which ultimately counted for nothing at the Finals themselves. England to grind out a 1-0 win in this one is trading at a price of 9/2 with online betting site Ladbrokes.

The Three Lions are up at a quote of even money in the match outright and given the way that they have gone through recent qualification campaigns, they are looking like some pretty good value. England’s Harry Kane, who will lead the line is a price of 15/8 to net with Wayne Rooney, who will be in an attacking midfielder role as he becomes the most capped outfield England player when he takes the field.

Slovakia are 7/2 to bank the win, with the draw at 23/10. The Slovakians have won just two of their last six games but they were notable wins. They won in Germany against Die Mannschaft in a friendly just before Euro 2016 and they did bank a group stage win over Russia at the Finals. Still, their record in their last five reads W1 D2 L2 and certainly nothing that England should be intimidated by. But the Slovakians have lost just one of their last 14 international matches played at home and this is likely to be a tight game. Under 2.5 goals on the game will return you a price of 8/15 with online betting site Ladbrokes. Slovakia have failed to score in three of their last five internationals now.

Slovakia vs England Betting Tips

Even though Slovakia can be really stubborn opposition, it is worth siding with England to come and put the win on the board. This is very likely going to be a low scoring affair, but the Three Lions have the depth to come through this with the win. They seem to be at their strongest in qualification matches and with the pragmatic approach of Sam Allardyce, an England 1-0 win has value in the correct score market.
