(Full time: 1:2 – goals: Sassi (P) 25′ – Kane 11′, 90+1′)

England will be looking to avoid an upset in this opening World Cup 2018 fixture of theirs against Tunisia on Monday. They have been carrying good form through their warm-up fixtures and have impressed in recent friendly matches. While they are expected to collect three points they may find Tunisia harder to break down than expected. That is because the Africans have impressed in recent fixtures against good quality European opposition. Can England come out of the blocks in a positive fashion? Tunisia vs England Preview

Because of some past results at major tournaments, including four years ago World Cup, there is always a bit of trepidation about England going into games like this. This should be a totally winnable match for the Three Lions but there are a couple of issues which will make punters a little bit hesitant. The first of those will be England’s lack of goals in their recent games. Seven of the last 10 fixtures that they have played have ended under 2.5 goals, while five of those seven finished under 1.5 goals.

That does say a lot about their defence though which has been excellent, but it doesn’t say much about their attacking threat. It does indicate that their opener at the World Cup on Monday is going to be short on goals and an England 1-0 correct score option at William Hill is at 4/1 odds* (Betting Odds were taken on June 14th, 2018 at 5:54 p.m.). England are favourites to get the win though and they have taken seven clean sheets in their last ten games.

A narrow victory for England?

Going back to their lack of goal output, the Three Lions have scored more than one goal in just two of their last nine games. The main source of goals for England at the 2018 World Cup is expected to be Harry Kane as he is spearheading the English attack. Kane is the 13/5 odds* (Betting Odds were taken on June 14th, 2018 at 5:54 p.m.) first goalscorer favourite at William Hill and it is hard to look past that in our Tunisia v England predictions. If they could get an early goal then it would settle their nerves nicely and you feel that they could push on. But while England have won three of their last four games if you look back five of their last six victories have been by a one-goal margin only.

You have to consider things from Tunisia’s perspective as well and the Africans may be able to frustrate England early. This could be a huge exercise in patience for England. A draw/England half-time/full-time wager does have some appeal in our Tunisia v England predictions. England play a lot more positive style of football that you would have ever have seen from them four years ago and they have produced some fluent, attacking stuff during their World Cup warm-ups. The lack of goals has really been the only thing missing.

Tunisians will offer resistance

The Tunisians will be tough opponents for England and their current form is a testament to that. When the draw was made for the tournament, England fans would probably have been lapping up their chances and seeing this as an easy game. It may not be because Tunisia’s only defeat in their last ten games happened in their final World Cup warm-up match, a 1-0 loss against Spain. They dug in well and frustrated the Spaniards which will raise questions about England’s ability to produce creativity to break them.

You can’t judge a team off of one game of course, but prior to that defeat to Spain, Tunisia had earned back to back 2-2 draws against Portugal and Turkey, only being denied a win against the Turks in the final minute. We can’t find a reason to back Tunisia to win this in our Tunisia v England predictions, but they could well be a difficult side to break down and they will be targeting a point. Either way, our Tunisia v England betting tips are looking at under 1.5 goals for 2/1 odds at William Hill* (Betting Odds were taken on June 14th, 2018 at 5:54 p.m.).

Tunisia v England Predictions

England may well have to show a great deal of patience in trying to break down their African opponents. The Three Lions have not been blessed with a tremendous amount of goals in their recent form and therefore our Tunisia v England predictions suggest that this is going to be a low scoring game and back England to win to nil.
