France v Croatia- World Cup 2018

France vs Croatia World Cup Prediction 15th July 2018 – 4.00 p.m

It has been some story for Croatia. They were an outsider heading into the tournament, but with a favourable draw and sheer grit and determination, they have pulled themselves through to what is their first ever World Cup Final. They are the second-smallest nation ever to have made it there as well.

But it is their opponents France, who have had an easier time of things in the knockout stage despite having a much tougher draw, who are the odds-on favourites to walk away with the title in Moscow on Sunday. Will Les Bleus be able to deliver the goods after getting things wrong in the Euro 2016 Final? They may find the Croats a tough competitor to shake.

Who will win France vs Croatia?

This should be a pretty good game because you have the technical ability of Croatia and their strong midfield here going up a France side which is rich in its quality of options. France have been a defensive beast through the knockout stages of the tournament but Croatia have found a way to goal in all of their matches at the tournament so far. Who will win this France vs Croatia tie may just all boil down to one moment of magic from someone. It should be close.

France favourites for Final

France are favourites to lift the World Cup trophy on the weekend and with justifiable reason. Their knockout stage campaign was much harder than that of Croatia’s and France handled themselves well through it. France have made it past Argentina, Uruguay and Belgium in the knockout phase, having to show different qualities in the face of different challenges along the way. Against Argentina, it was attacking power needed, against Uruguay patience and then against Belgium, strength and control. The fact that France’s defence completed negated the threat of the free-scoring Belgium in the semi finals was hugely impressive from them. France have conceded in just one of their last five games now and France to win to nil in Sunday’s Final is at 13/8 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July 2018 at 6:12 p.m.).

The form of the French really stands up well because they have suffered just the one reverse in their last seventeen games, winning twelve of those. So even though they are a squad stacked with attacking talent, we haven’t really seen them express themselves as an attacking unit, but they don’t break very often at all. Olivier Giroud continues up front despite not having had any of his 13 shots at the tournament go on target yet. Antoine Griezmann is the 4/1 first goalscorer favourite at bet365* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July 2018 at 6:12 p.m.). France have scored in all but one of their last fifteen games and will be expected to find a way through Croatia’s defence. It may not have been with the greatest of style, certainly not through the group stage, but the fact that they have grown into the tournament and have been versatile enough to produce the kind of football and tactics that have been needed in a given situation says a lot about the strength of Les Bleus.

Croatia survive tests

While France have coasted through their knockout stage matches all in 90 minutes, the story has been very different from Croatia. They have needed a period of extra time in each of their knockout stage matches to progress and the first two, against Denmark and Russia saw them prevail on penalties. They managed to avoid the pressures of another shootout as they beat England 2-1 after extra time in the semi finals. In all three of those matches Croatia had to survive the test of being behind in the games and all three of them were level at 1-1 at 90 minutes. In the bet365 correct score market, the shortest priced option is a France 1-0 at 9/2 while the 1-1 draw is at 6/1 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July 2018 at 6:12 p.m.). This golden generation of Croatia, led by Golden Ball candidate Luka Modric, just keep finding a deeper place from which to dig as they have looked out on their feet at times.

They looked spent in the second half of extra time against Russia in the quarterfinals, and after being dominated by England in the first half of the semi-final, from somewhere Croatia got a new lease of life. They actually looked stronger the game went on as England faded away. Croatia adapted well to the challenge against England and looked a real threat from out wide and then you had Luka Modric running the show in the middle of the park. Croatia’s form is great with a W4 D3 record in their last seven games played (90 minutes) and even though they don’t really boast a quality out and out striker, they haven’t been goal shy. They have scored at least two goals in six of their last seven games (they are currently on a seven-match scoring streak) which includes extra time. They have faced nothing like the quality of France though in the knockout stages and you will wonder just how much energy they do have left. France are so well organised at the back under 1.5 goals is at 11/8 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from 12th July, 2018 at 6:12 p.m.). Regardless of what happens, it has been a great journey for Croatia.

France vs Croatia Prediction

It has been such a good tournament from Croatia who have at times looked brilliant and at other times have shown the strength just to hang in there. However, they have played the equivalent of an entire extra game during the knockout stage and given the emotions of the day, we feel that they are going to come up short. France have the extra quality in depth here and we are backing Les Bleus to win by a one-goal margin.
