Nigeria vs Argentina World Cup Prediction 26th June 2018 – 3.00 p.m

Well who would have predicted that Argentina would be struggling quite as badly as this? We always predicted that they would have a fight on their hands to win this group, but we didn’t expect them to be sitting bottom of Group D going into the final round of matches. But they are not down and out yet and a victory is probably going to be enough to get them through to the next round. If that happens and Iceland fail to beat Croatia, as poor as they have been, Argentina would be in the round of 16.

Nigeria vs Argentina Odds*

Who will win Nigeria vs Argentina?

These are desperate times for Argentina so can they do enough to produce a win against Nigeria in this tense game? From the perspective of the Africans all they need to do is turn up and collect a draw which should, by the looks of things, be enough to get them through to the next round. There will be plenty of pressure on both of these will making for an exciting climax to this group.

Can Super Eagles hang on?

Despite some poor performances so far, except a good second-half spell against Iceland, Nigeria are in the running to make the round of 16. After losing their opening game against Croatia the Africans kept their qualification hopes alive by beating Iceland 2-0. Ironically that it is what kept Argentina in the running as well and that has subsequently created pressure on the Super Eagles for this game. The win guarantees Nigeria a place in the next round while a draw should be enough and the only way it wouldn’t be is if Iceland comprehensively beat Croatia.

While a lot has been made of Argentina’s poor performances, Nigeria have been just as bad by and large. Both teams not to score is at 10/11 odds with bet365* (Betting Odds were taken from June 23rd, 2018 at 00:03 a.m.). Their victory over Iceland was the first time since last November that Nigeria managed more than one goal in a game. The clean sheet that they collected against Iceland is their only one in their last nine games and look defensively very frail. You would have to imagine that Nigeria will be setting their stall out to avoid defeat more than anything in this fixture because that keeps Argentina behind them.

Desperation to drive Argentina

What can Argentina do about their situation? If Nigeria had lost against Iceland the Albiceleste would be eliminated by now. So Nigeria did them a favour and will the South Americans turn around and punish them for it? Argentina were very poor in their opening 1-1 draw against Iceland but then got even worse as they were hammered 3-0 by Croatia. But there is still a chance of getting to the next round and to do that they have to win this game as well as needing Iceland to not beat Croatia, or if Iceland do, Argentina would have to beat the Europeans on goal difference. Given the struggles that the South Americans have had so far in the bet365 correct score market an Argentina 1-0 result is at 6/1 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from June 23rd, 2018 at 00:03 a.m.). All the impetus is going to be on Argentina to come out and attack because they have to win.

Argentina holds a W2 D1 L3 record in their last six games which is pretty poor by their standards, and Lionel Messi has failed to ignite his country. That is because he has had no service from a very poor Argentina midfield and he has had to come deep looking to get on the ball. Messi is a 4/6 anytime goalscorer option for this game* (Betting Odds were taken from June 23rd, 2018 at 00:03 a.m.). The major misfire against Croatia is the only game in their last eight fixtures where Argentina have failed to score, and in those previous seven Argentina scored at least two goals in four of them. As Nigeria are likely to favour a draw we see this being a tight and under 2.5 goals is at even money with bet365* (Betting Odds were taken from June 23rd, 2018 at 00:03 a.m.).

Nigeria vs Argentina Prediction

There is going to be a dramatic conclusion to this group and we are still looking Argentina to pull it the win and scrape their way through to the next round. The thing is Nigeria are only an average side at best and Argentina have been clueless, but they have so many match winners and they have nothing to lose in this that actually makes them really dangerous. Back Argentina to win by one goal margin.
